I got started in the contract furniture industry with a small Baltimore company in 1986 and founded Facility Services in 1991. Before that, I was a retailer in Annapolis and previously, a professional potter in Washington, D.C.

Personal: Married to Crystal Carpenter, we moved to the Annapolis area in 1978. We have two children. Daughter Cassie is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she majored in Political Science. She and husband Brian have a three year old son, Sawyer. Cassie's been a full time mom since Sawyer's birth and Brian works with me out of his office in Greensboro. Son Cole graduated from Roanoke College and has masters degrees from Humboldt State University in California and Portland State University in Oregon. He and wife Joni live in Denver where he teaches high school English and she's a professional photographer. They have a five month old daughter, Juniper.
